Καλωσορίσατε!

Who am I?

My name is Ioanna Katidioti and I am currently a PhD student at the University of Groningen.

What is my research about?
I study sequential multitasking, which means stopping the main task you are doing and starting another, focusing only at one task for seconds, minutes or hours. More specifically, I am interested in self-interruption, i.e. when we interrupt ourselves from our main task in order to engage into a secondary task.

Examples of self-interruption
:
  • interrupt studying in order to check emails
  • stop working to chat with coworkers
  • leave the paper you are writing to go drink some coffee

What is the deal with multitasking?
Studies show that we multitask constantly, interrupting our work every few minutes for various reasons.

Studies also show that we become
worse or slower at our tasks when we decide to combine them.

Then why do we keep multitasking?
I hope my research will provide some answers to that question!

Who helps me?
My primary supervisor is Niels Taatgen and my co-supervisor is Marieke van Vugt.
Other members of the multitasking group are
Jelmer Borst and Menno Nijboer.
