Social robots are entering our society at an increasing speed, providing support in education, healthcare, hospitality, and other domains. The research and education at the Social Robotics Lab of the University of Groningen focuses on designing AI for robots that can communicate socially with humans in an effective and efficient manner, including verbal and non-verbal gestural communication, to support people in the domains of education and healthcare.
Currently, the following topics form the core of our research:
- Second language education for children with (and without) Developmental Language Disorders.
- Foreign language education for adults.
- Speech and language therapy for people with aphasia.
- Grounding of communication in human-robot interaction.
The lab currently has a variety of five different robot species (more to come):
