About KION

Kunstmatige Intelligentie-Opleidingen in Nederland
Artificial Intelligence Study Programmes in the Netherlands

KION is a collaboration between the Artificial Intelligence study programmes of participating Dutch universities. It defines a collective framework for AI education at the bachelor’s and master’s level, to ensure that KION Artificial Intelligence bachelor’s degrees give access to KION master’s programmes in the Netherlands.

Each programme accents different aspects of Artificial Intelligence alongside the common kernel of subjects defined in the KION framework. The KION framework was first defined in 2002 and continues to be updated as the field evolves.

As of 2022, nine universities participate in KION: Groningen University, Leiden University, Maastricht University, Open Universiteit, Radboud University, Tilburg University, University of Amsterdam, Utrecht University and VU Amsterdam.

For more information about the KION framework and its history, please refer to the most recent Frame of Reference (2018).
