We are designing a new experiment in which we will train children of ages 5 and 6 with second-order false belief stories to investigate which kind of feedback (if any) will help them. Second-order false belief stories are stories in which the children are asked to attribute a second-order belief such as \u201cMarja thinks that Ken thinks that she took potatoes\u201d, where the children know that Marja\u2019s belief is in fact false. For this purpose, we constructed 34 stories with related pictures. All of the pictures have been designed by the professional artist Avik Kumar Maitra.<\/p>\n

Ken and Marja are friends. They are going to cook together at Ken\u2019s home. Marja says to Ken: \u201c I am going to my home to get potatoes\u201d, and she leaves to go to her home.<\/p>\n

Then, Ken\u2019s mother comes home, and she tells Ken that she just visited Marja\u2019s \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 mother. \u201cDid they have potatoes at their home?\u201d, asks Ken. \u201cNo\u201d says Mum, \u201cThey \u00a0 \u00a0 didn\u2019t have potatoes anymore, but they do have spaghetti.\u201d \u201cThen Marja will \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 probably get spaghetti\u201d, says Ken.<\/p>\n

Marja arrives at her home. \u201cI want to take potatoes to cook with Ken\u201d, she says to her \u00a0mum. \u201cUnfortunately the potatoes are gone, I only have rice for you\u201d, says mum. Rice is also nice, so Marja takes the rice with her.<\/p>\n

On the way to Ken\u2019s house, Marja meets grandma. She says to grandma: \u201cI just took \u00a0 rice from home and I am going to cook it with Ken at his home\u201d. \u201cThat is nice\u201d, says \u00a0 grandma. \u201cDoes Ken know what you took?\u201d<\/p>\n

Ignorance question: What does Marja say to grandma?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

And then grandma asks: \u201cWhat does Ken think that you took?\u201d<\/p>\n
