Peter has broken a window of Ellen’s house. So at first sight Peter has committed a tort against Ellen.
However, Peter saved Ellen’s child from her burning house, so there is a ground of justification. As a result, on second thought breaking the window was not a tort.
But Peter broke the window in order to steal Ellen’s stereo. All things considered, Peter has committed a tort against Ellen.
