The correspondence theory of truth
1. There is a world independent of our knowledge of it (i.e., a realist ontology is assumed)
2. A sentence is true if and only if the state of affairs expressed by the sentence is true in the real world
E.g., ‘It rains’ is true if and only if it rains.
