My research project concerns the development of social cognition in children; the development of skills that allow us to reason about the knowledge, beliefs, desires and intentions of other human beings.
Such reasoning requires us to build mental models of one another. A mental model can be hierarchical and (recursively) include multiple depths; for example, another mind that reasons about yet another mind. These skills develop relatively late in childhood and do not become readily available in all kinds of contexts.
