IBM Robocode Competition Concludes with Final Showdown at LinuxWorld

Developers bot battles turn up the heat at Moscone Center

San Francisco CA, August 14, 2002 . . . After months of heated
competition among developers from around the globe, IBM's Robocode
Rumble, a Java programming competition based on its Robocode programming
game, climaxed with a face-off among eight finalists. Three winners are
taking home the championship titles.

The contest kicked-off at IBM's developerWorks Live! in San Francisco
with a competition on the show floor, attracting hundreds of entries.
Based on the skill of the programmer, entries are separated into three
levels; beginner, intermediate and advanced. Although the game comes
with a standard API, the more creative and thorough the developer, the
more likely their robot is to outlast the competition.

The winners are:

Advanced Category: Dutch developer Enno Peters' "Yngwie" 'bot beat out
eight contenders yesterday in a final showdown with "Vapour", written by
British developer Steve Coope. Beginning Category: German developer
Manfred Schuster won the finals for his entry, "Ares". Intermediate
Category: Arun Kishore from Singapore won in the intermediate category
with "Fermat".
